Search Committee Quarterly Update Recap - November 8, 2024 (This note originally appeared in the November 8, 2024 GBC Newsletter)
Church,
During the quarterly update on November 3, members of the search committee shared information about the ongoing search for a Directory of Student Ministry. Below is a summary of their presentation.
In August, a search committee was formed to begin the process of finding a new leader for our student (6- 12th grade) ministry. The committee is inclusive of board members, parents, youth and ministry leaders and HR professionals who all prayerfully considered and accepted the position.
Over the past few months, the committee has faithfully been meeting to pray, research and plan. After consulting with our students, their parents and our church board, the committee finalized the role’s title, Director of Student Ministries, status (full-time) and description to capture the needs of our local assembly and students.
To be good stewards in our current financial situation, we felt it was most appropriate to fill this position with a director level role. In addition to being more suitable for our current budget, the committee believes that our experienced youth staff and pastors will provide an environment to help this individual develop their spiritual giftedness.
In accordance with our church doctrine and legal responsibility, the church will be accepting applications from men and women for the director position. In alignment with the roles and responsibilities of our other director role, Director of Children’s Ministry, the Director of Student Ministries will not have a role on the board and operate under the authority of our pastoral leaders.
The position was posted on Sunday, November 3 to our church website and Indeed, a job posting website. The committee will also be posting the role on additional job posting sites and social media.
Over the coming weeks, the committee will review applications and interview qualified candidates. We will keep you updated on their progress through a variety of channels. The search committee meeting minutes, prayer requests and more are housed in a communication hub on a private page on the church website. The Church Family will be able to access it through a direct link, which you can find in the GBC Newsletter, Sunday slideshow or by a request to the church office.
It is the church’s desire to keep these meeting minutes private from potential applicants or candidates but easily accessible to our church family. We will also share progress on the search at Quarterly Update meetings and during morning announcements.
Throughout this process, the committee has prayed for “open hands” - requesting the Spirit provide guidance and peace as we make decisions related to our search. We ask that you join us in this continued prayer request and reach out to us with your questions throughout the process.
