Updates from Search Committee Meetings
8-12-24
- Search Committee Members: Emily Brophy, Robert Ymker, Glenn Wilson, Alison Glashower, Kyle Oldenkamp, Kellie Laskowski, Jeremy Andrews, Katie Walmer
- Each meeting will have a dedicated time for prayer. The “heavy lifting” is not done by any of us, but rather by the Spirit’s direction that we have the opportunity to follow.
- During this meeting, we discussed the fears that many are feeling:
● We need a director in there soon for our youth.
● Our finances are not where we would like them to be.
● We need to get this hire right and not rush into a wrong decision.
● Previous Youth hires took a while. What do we do to help this process move at a good pace? - We discussed individual areas of gifting that might contribute toward the search process.
8-25-24
- All committee members were brought up to speed regarding the transparent process of how Dustin was called to be the Pastor of Discipleship at Calvary Community Church in Wisconsin.
- The process was transparent and it was really impactful seeing God’s fingerprints throughout the process. So much so, that we are confident that God is continuing to guide the youth
currently and in the future. - The job description was discussed and we started the process of cleaning up the wording as well as adjusting it to our current needs. It was rather lengthy and unclear, and so this process is
intended to bring clarity to the posting.
9-8-24
- Individuals are still working on the job description that will later be brought to the elder board.
- A page is being created on the website/app that will act as a landing page for interested candidates.
- The group has begun working on developing a database of interview questions. Categorizing and coding the questions will occur at a later date.
- It has been determined that the process of gathering applicants and interviewing will be continuous and scheduled with the goal
of having multiple interviews on designated days. - Lastly, the team has started to look into the external job platforms that we are looking to consider.
9-22-24
- Team members met prior with the youth group to let them see who was on the team and place a name with a face if they needed to talk to them in the future.
- Additionally, this opportunity gave the youth a chance to provide input on the position and characteristics that they wanted to see in this future applicant.
- Themes are being pulled out to be shared with the committee as well as to the parents at the next youth parent meeting coming up on Oct. 2nd.
- An email is established in order to collect information and applications from potential candidates.
- Communication will be a priority throughout this process. The first communication will occur at the Quarterly update on November 3rd and then approximately
every 6 weeks after that.
10-13-24
- A fair amount of discussion was given regarding the feedback received from the parent meeting on October 2nd. Parents are concerned that there is equity and access among all students
regarding interactions with the youth staff and the director. - There was also some discussion and further clarification received regarding the flexibility in office hours that the director will have considering they will have evening responsibilities within this position.
- The job description will be finalized by the elders and will be ready for immediate dispersal by the Oct. 27th meeting.
- The remainder of the time was used to hand out roles and responsibilities as we prepare for the November “Go Live” week. One facet of this includes designing a landing page on the
website/app that all of the external job search sites will funnel through.
10/27/24
- Much of today’s meeting centered on the Go Live day/week of November 3rd. Assignments were shared as a team, and we realized that certain tasks fit certain individuals' skill sets. We
like to split up the workload among the team and find it helpful to match up certain individuals with certain tasks that they shine in. - We are focusing on the communication that will take place among the students, parents, congregation, and applicants. We discussed the method and frequency of these
communications, as well as the order in which they occur. - Within the week we will have the faces of the search committee available along with the homepage hosted on the website that will contain everything associated with this search process.
- The intentionality of the process is high and we are really feeling the sense that we need to daily give God control of the process.
11/24/24
- The committee reviewed prescreen summaries for candidates conducted by select committee members from the past two weeks
- Conducted first round interviews with applicants
- Reviewed interview notes and discussed next steps for round two interviews and set up prescreen calls with new applicants
